The coverage table in cvscored: each requirement, its result, and the CV line that answers it.
Each requirement, its result, and the line in your CV.

Step by step

  1. Write one CV you can trust

Keep one CV with your real jobs, dates, titles and numbers. Pull the last five years to the top. A checker reads what is there, so a clear CV gives a clear result.

  2. Find one job advert

Pick a job you would really take. Open the advert on the employer's site or a job board. You can copy the text or copy the web address.

  3. Read the advert twice

Mark every skill, tool and year of experience it asks for. Each of these is a requirement. The advert is the list you are measured against.

  4. Match each requirement to a line

For every requirement, find the line of your CV that answers it. Write that line beside the requirement. Do this before you change any wording, so you see the true starting point.

  5. Mark the gaps

A requirement with no line is a gap. Some gaps you can answer with work you have really done. Some you cannot, and that is useful to know early.

  6. Judge the score, then decide

Covered requirements are the score. A close match is worth an evening. A far one tells you to spend the time on a better job.

  7. Fix the wording, not the facts

Use the employer's word where your CV already means the same. Never add a skill you do not have to move a number. A wrong line costs you the job later.

What one check gives you

Add your CV and one job. A link or the advert's text will do.

The browser extension saves the job from the job page in one click.

Every requirement is pulled out and checked against your CV.

Each one gets a result and, where there is one, the CV line that answers it.

You also see the score now and the score the wording could reach.

You see all of this on one page, so you can act on it in one sitting.

A table, not a keyword count

The check reads the advert the way a person would.

A requirement only you can answer is not counted in the score.

A requirement you cover in different words is marked, with both phrases shown.

You decide whether to adopt the employer's wording.

A keyword count cannot tell a skill from a wish. The table can.

It also cannot see the same work said in two ways, and people say it in two ways all the time.

What a gap tells you

A gap is a requirement nothing in your CV answers yet.

Some gaps you can close with wording you already have.

For the rest, the check suggests an honest answer for the letter or the interview.

A gap is not a failure. It is a place to look.

If the same gap appears in every posting for the job you want, that is a skill to learn.

Reading the score

The score is the share of the advert your CV answers today.

It is a number out of 100, so 67 means about two thirds.

A number near 100 on a long advert is rare. Adverts ask for more than one person has.

Read the score with the list of gaps, never on its own.

The list tells you what to do next. The number only tells you how close you are.

Before you send

Fix the obvious things first: the employer's name, the role title and the dates.

Check that every line with a number is true. Numbers are easy to check and hard to defend.

Cut the line that applies to every job. A line for no one is a line for nobody.

Read the advert once more. Something you skipped the first time may sit at the bottom.

Then send the application yourself. cvscored does not apply for you.

What a checker cannot do

It cannot promise an interview. The employer decides, and many things are outside your control.

It cannot know the team, the budget or the person who left.

It cannot read a CV that hides its dates or lists tools with no work behind them.

It cannot replace your judgement. It gives you the list and the score, and you decide.

After the free check

The free check keeps your CV and the job for 24 hours.

A free account keeps the score and lets you edit the CV and tailor it.

Your CV and the job stay private. We do not share them with employers.

The score is not a promise of an interview. The employer decides.

cvscored does not apply for you. You send the application.

An invented example.

Good points

  • Shows the exact CV line behind each requirement.
  • Names the gaps while you can still decide.

Not so good

  • The score is an estimate, not the employer's decision.
  • A vague advert gives a weaker result.

Checklist

  • The role title matches the advert word for word.
  • Every number in the CV is true.
  • The company name is spelled correctly.
  • The job is one you would really accept.
  • Each gap is one you can explain honestly.
  • The employer's wording is used only where it is true.
  • The CV is saved as a PDF and opens.
  • You are ready to send the application yourself.

One honest limit

The score is not a promise of an interview. Northwind Logistics still decides who to invite, and the score cannot know their other candidates.

Key takeaways

  • Match one CV against one job at a time.
  • Mark the gaps before you rewrite anything.
  • Fix the wording, not the facts.
  • Use the score and the gaps together.

Frequently asked questions

Is the CV checker free?
Yes. The first check is free and needs no account. Your first 3 applications are free, with every feature, and need no card.
Which file types can I upload?
PDF, Word, JPG or PNG, plain text or LaTeX. You can paste the text instead.
Do you share my CV with employers?
No. Your CV and the job stay private. We do not send them to employers.
What languages does it speak?
The app is in ten languages. The job is read in its own language. Your CV and letter are written in six: English, Deutsch, Français, Italiano, Español and Nederlands.
How long does a check take?
About a minute. The result stays for 24 hours, or in your account.
Can I check without an account?
Yes. The first check needs no account. An account keeps the result and lets you edit the CV.
What if the advert has no clear requirements?
The check still reads it. A vague advert gives a shorter list, and often a lower score for everyone.
