What a logistics manager does

A logistics manager answers for the flow of goods. In a warehouse that means receiving, storing, picking, packing and shipping with the right people on each shift. On the road it means planning transport, choosing carriers and fixing what goes wrong on the way. Behind both sits the plan: how much stock to hold, where, and how much capacity the coming weeks need.

Supply chain roles widen the view from one site to the whole chain, from suppliers through production to the customer, and join the planning with sales and purchasing. The work is judged on a few figures: deliveries on time and complete, stock, and cost per order or per shipment. The ladder runs from logistics coordinator to supply chain manager and head of supply chain or operations director; see the career paths.

Your CV for a logistics manager job

An operations director reads a logistics CV for the size of what you ran and the figures you moved; hiring software reads it for the words of the ad. Give both.

Use the keywords the ads use

  • Name the work as logistics ads do: "warehouse management", "transport management", "inventory management", "S&OP", "OTIF", "continuous improvement", "carrier management". The skills table above shows which keywords the ads use most.
  • Give the scale in one line: square metres or pallet places, orders or shipments a day, people and shifts, sites, the transport budget.
  • Name the systems with what you did: "went live with a new WMS", "ran the transport tender in the TMS", "set up the stock reports in SAPAsked in 18% of logistics manager ads (as of 5 Nov 2026).Work in SAP's logistics parts: deliveries, stock, warehouse tasks, transport and the planning runs.".
  • Write a qualification you are working on as "in progress", such as "CSCP, in progress" or "CILT Diploma, in progress".

Prove each skill

A logistics line proves itself with a figure from before and after: OTIF, fill rate, stock days, cost per order, errors or accidents.

How we read our data

  • The jobs: the logistics manager jobs in our job search, matched the same way the search matches them. Our list is not the whole market, so we give shares and rankings, never counts.
  • The skills: we read a sample of the ads every day and count the skills in them with a fixed word list. We keep only the counts, never the ad text.
  • Pay: from published salary research, with each source and its date, as a range from entry level to senior. It is not worked out from our ads.
  • Dates: every figure is worked out again each day, and shows the day it was worked out.
